Sheriff's Office, Family Asking For Help In Finding Missing Woman

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance to help locate a Round Hill woman who was last seen July 24.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance to help locate a Round Hill woman. Barbara J. Peters, 40, was last seen by family in Loudoun County on July 24 and is believed to have traveled to Oxon Hill, Maryland on Sunday, July 26.

Peters was last seen wearing a gold raincoat and is believed to be driving a 2012 silver Honda Odyssey minivan with Virginia tag: WRK 3031. The LCSO said it is concerned for her well-being "due to mental and/or physical health concerns."

On Saturday, the LCSO said its detectives learned that Peters may have traveled to Chicago after leaving the Maryland area on July 27.

On Sunday, the family reported on the Facebook page that it has partnered with an organization in Illinois called the Missing Persons Awareness Network since there is a possibility that Peters may be in the Chicago area. A "Find Barbara Peters" search party on Saturday located her vehicle in Oxon Hill based on credit card activity that occurred in that area.

"Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes with us yesterday to conduct a quick search in #Maryland," the family posted on Facebook.

Derrick Peters said his wife went missing on July 24 around 9 a.m. when she was going to the bank — presumably Apple Credit Union — and never returned home.

"She likes to smile (beautiful smile) and talk about her three children," Derrick Peters wrote. "Also, she loves to talk about healthy living and medicinal herbs and gardening."

According to the Facebook page, a purchase also was made July 25 using her debit card at a CITGO gas station on Richmond Highway in Alexandria. The same card was used for a taxi cab purchase from an Arlington-based cab company, but the company name was not provided, according to the Facebook page.
