2 Manassas Residents Dead In Domestic-Related Shooting: Police

Police said that four people were shot by 21-year-old Asa Mitchell, who also shot and killed a motorist before shooting and killing himself.

MANASSAS, VA — Two Manassas residents are dead following what Prince William County Police are characterizing as a domestic-related shooting Wednesday night in Manassas in which four family members were shot by a 21-year-old man who later shot and killed himself, police said Thursday.

The shooting took place just after 6 p.m. in the 10000 block of Ellis Road, police said. Investigators from the Prince William County Police Department and Fauquier County Sheriff’s Department said that four people were shot in the home before the suspect fled in a family member’s vehicle, police said.

One of the people shot inside the home died at the scene and the three others were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The surviving family members included a 76-year-old woman, a 56-year-old woman and a 16-year-old male, police said.

While investigating the initial shooting, police learned of a separate shooting that took place in near Delaplane in Fauquier County, police said. The suspect sought in connection with the Manassas shooting was involved in a single-vehicle accident that left the vehicle undrivable. Police said at one point, the suspect encountered a passing motorist and shot and killed the driver before he fled on foot. As police were connecting the two incidents, officers located the suspect nearby the crash scene. Police said the suspect then shot and killed themselves.

Police have identified the suspect as Asa Ellington Mitchell, 21, and the victim who was killed in the home has been identified as Eric M. Mitchell, 55, Manassas. Police have not yet identified the driver of the vehicle who police determined was shot and killed by Asa Mitchell.
