Bobcat Scare Just Big House Cats on the Loose, Say Police (ICYMI)

Several large cats are wandering around the western end of Prince William County, but they don’t pose a threat to local residents, according to police.

They resemble bobcats, but they’re actually a domesticated version called pixiebobs, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. Three pixiebobs escaped last month from a breeder in Nokesville, the owner of one of the cats told the Post.

Last week, several people in Haymarket spotted one of the cats, named Cam, and called dispatchers with the Prince William County police.

The police posted a “wanted” poster for Cam on Facebook on Monday, but assured the public that he’s “friendly and harmless.” The poster describes Cam as weighing about 18 to 20 pounds, with a bobtail and long tufts at the end of his ears.

As of Friday night, the police Facebook page for Cam had drawn 245 likes and nearly 3,900 comments. Those who posted comments expressed hope that he’ll be found safe and sound and returned to his family. One wrote: “hope this feller finds his way home soon good luck.”

Other comments include “Hope he is safe,” and “Prayers for a safe return.”

The Facebook page also attracted admirers, with people purring compliments for Cam like “Beautiful cat” and “He’s gorgeous.”
