The sports tourism task force was created in 2012 to identify sporting events/tournaments that can take advantage of the diversity of Prince William & Manassas parks, fields and private venues. The group identifies various sporting events and works to help secure and service these events. “We are thrilled that our destination has been selected. These are great opportunities to showcase Prince William as a prime destination for fishing enthusiasts as well as sporting events and tournaments.” said Ann Marie Maher, President/CEO of Discover Prince William & Manassas. “The economic impact on the region will include increased hotel room night occupancies and growth in the spending of discretionary funds on lodging, food and beverage and regional attractions.” The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament will be held on Saturday March 14, 2015 and the Fishers of Men Tournament will be held on October 9th & 10th. Leesylvania State Park will be the main hub for both tournaments. Sitting directly on the Potomac River, the park will act as the weigh-in station, boat launch site, and a relaxing place for spectators to spend time while the tournaments are in progress. Both tournaments will offer competitive anglers the opportunity to come together and compete to win prizes, cash and have the opportunity to advance into the Championship round of the King Kat Tournament. There will be a free kids fishing rodeo event held on March 14th for children 12 years old and younger. Each child entered into the rodeo will win a prize and be entered to win a $1,000.00 scholarship. Pre-Registration for the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament is now open.
