Camera Enforcement Begins In Manassas School Zones

A 30-day warning period began for new speed enforcement cameras this week in a pair of Manassas City school zones.

MANASSAS, VA — This week, a 30-day warning period began for new speed enforcement cameras near Manassas City schools. The cameras will be active during the arrival and dismissal times for Metz Middle School and Round Elementary School.

In the future, another speed enforcement camera will be added to Dean Elementary School, authorities said in a news release.

Here are the detailed times and locations for the new cameras:

  • Round Elementary School on Hastings Drive
    • Cameras will be active from 8:35 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Metz Middle School on Wellington Road
    • Cameras will be active from 7:05 a.m. to 7:35 a.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Dean Elementary School on Prince William Street
    • Note: This camera is not yet active.
    • Cameras will be active from 8:05 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. and from 3:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

The 30-day warning period for the Hastings Drive and Wellington Road cameras began on Wednesday. After the warning period ends in September, drivers could face a $100 fine if they're caught speeding on the cameras.

"All violations are reviewed and approved by a Manassas City Police Officer," the Manassas City Police Department," the Manassas City Police Department said. "If it is determined that a violation occurred, a citation will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle."

Authorities noted that the fines will not lead to an increase in insurance costs or demerit points on a license.
