Driver Dies After Jeep Strikes Several Fences, Overturns Near Private Road: Police

A 35-year-old woman from Manassas died after her Jeep struck a fence and overturned near a private gravel road on Wednesday morning.

MANASSAS, VA — A 35-year-old woman from Manassas died after her Jeep crashed near a private gravel road on Wednesday, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities identified the woman as Emily Kathryn Fleming.

Investigators with the police department's Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene of the crash around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The crash occurred near the 5300 block of Hoadly Road in Manassas.

Authorities determined that the driver of a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee was travelling north on a private gravel road on a property before the crash. Investigators believe that at some point, the driver of the Jeep suddenly accelerated, lost control of the vehicle, and left the roadway.

The Jeep then travelled through a field, striking several fences, police said. The vehicle then struck a drainage tunnel and overturned.

Rescue personnel then responded to the scene, and the driver was flown to a nearby hospital. Authorities said she died at the hospital from injuries suffered in the crash. The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said.

This was the second fatal crash reported in the Manassas area on Wednesday, according to the police department. Around 2 a.m., a car caught fire after striking a tree near Purcell Road.

Authorities have yet to identify the driver in the earlier crash. The remains were taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner for identification.
