Fauquier Teenager Waives Extradition Rights In Killings: Reports
A Virginia teenager accused of killing his mother and 6-year-old brother is set to be extradited back to Fauquier County by Friday.

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA — A Virginia teenager accused of killing his mother and 6-year-old brother before shooting his father Friday evening is set to be extradited back to Fauquier County from Durham, North Carolina, by Friday, according to officials.
Levi Norwood, 17, appeared in court Monday in North Carolina and waived his extradition rights. The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Norwood, a junior at Liberty High School in Bealeton, killed his mother, Jennifer Norwood, 34, and brother Wyatt and shot his father Joshua Norwood, 37, on Friday.
His father told police when he entered his home before 6 p.m. Friday he saw his wife and younger son dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Norwood fired several shots at his father, who fled and called 911. The older Norwood was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The family's house is located in the 12000 block of Elk Run Road in the community of Midland in southern Fauquier County.

After fleeing the house, Levi Norwood traveled on foot about 10 miles, where he stole a car, according to the sheriff's office, which used a dog to track Levi Norwood's movements after leaving the house. Norwood then fled to Durham in the stolen car, where he was caught shoplifting at a Target, police said.
An aunt of Joshua Norwood, Victoria Eaton, told Fox 5 DC on Monday that Levi Norwood had trouble at home. "It was not an easy home life for him,” Eaton said in the interview. "I very much want to hear what Levi has to say about the events that occurred.”

Despite noting that Norwood had troubles at home, Eaton added, "I just feel like there would have been some red flags to something so heinous.”
She described him as a "generous, kind, energetic, sweet, easygoing, young teenager” who "loved his little brother" and "loved his mom."
NBC4 reported Tuesday that the medical examiner’s report found that Jennifer and Wyatt Norwood both died of a gunshot wound and blunt force trauma to the head.
When he goes before a judge in Virginia, Norwood is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his mother and brother. Joshua Norwood, who was able to contact the police using his cell phone to alert them about his son, suffered an upper body wound and received treatment at a local hospital.
Commonwealth's Attorney Scott Hook said at a news conference Sunday that his office will decide whether to seek to have the defendant tried as an adult. When he is returned to Virginia, Norwood is set to be held in a regional juvenile detention center.
On Monday, about 80 people gathered at Mary Walter Elementary School in Bealeton to mourn the death of Wyatt Norwood, a first-grader at the school, and Jennifer Norwood. Mary Walter Elementary School Principal Alex O’Dell remembered, according to the Fauquier Times, that Wyatt Norwood "was a sweet boy, with a sweet disposition."
