Gainesville Mom in Coma Following June 1 Car Crash: Media Reports
Neighbors, friends pitch in to help family as son with cerebral palsy is treated at rehabilitation hospital.

Residents of Gainesville are helping out a family facing tough times following a serious traffic accident several weeks ago.
The June 1 collision left Kelly Hennessa, 54, in a coma and her son Carson, 12, in the hospital with broken bones and an injured lung, according to a Gofundme website set up to help the family. Carson has cerebral palsy; confined to a wheelchair for many years, he had learned to walk with crutches just before the accident, thanks to a number of surgeries and physical therapy, say media reports.

As of Monday, the Gofundme site had raised more than $16,000, well on the way to its goal of $20,000 to help the family meet medical expenses. Greg Powell, Hennessa’s husband, and their son Clayton, 14, visit her and Carson each day, and Greg delivers updates on how they’re doing on the Gofundme page.
A previous Gofundme site raised about $37,000 for the family’s medical expenses, the Washington Post reported last week. A restaurant in Old Town Manassas and an ice cream shop in Haymarket have held fundraisers for the family, and friends have sold T-shirts and helped out with daily tasks.
