Grief Support Group Teaches Holiday Coping Strategies in Manassas

The group features Paul Alexander, a singer and psychotherapist who combines music and grief counseling to help those who lost a loved one.

The holidays can be a difficult time for those who have recently lost a loved one. The Prince William and Arlington Chapters of the Compassionate Friends will host a combined music and holiday grief support event for bereaved family members in the Washington, Maryland and Northern Virginia area who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling.

The “A Gentle Christmas: Facing the Holidays Following a Loss Concert/Workshop” will begin Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at Buckhall United Methodist Church, 10251 Moore Drive in Manassas.

The group will feature Paul Alexander, a singer and psychotherapist, who will share his music and messages of hope.

Paul Alexander’s presentation and a candle lighting ceremony will offer tips and coping techniques to help families who have lost a child make it through the holidays.

The program will integrate teaching grieving family members twelve ways to cope during the holidays with inspirational Christmas songs to balance grief education with the healing sounds of music.
