Latest Phone Scam Recorded: Hang Up On This Guy
"Steve Martin" at the U.S. Treasury claims legal action is pending unless you "help us help you."
This caller may make serious claims that you could face legal action, but law enforcement is warning residents that it’s just a scam.
In latest scam, a man (”Steve Martin”) claims to be an agent of the U.S. Department of Treasury, asking you to call him back so you can “help them help you.”

Don’t return that call, says Adrienne Helms with the Manassas Police.
“Instead, hang up the phone, and never give out any personal or financial information over the phone if you did not initiate contact,” she said.

Federal agencies will not call you seeking money or threatening legal action. If you have a question about government taxes, benefits, or even your utility bill, contact the organization directly.
Another frequent phone scam, calls from the “Internal Revenue Service” claiming that money must be paid immediately, has led to more than $5 million in payments to scammers, according to the real IRS.
If you suspect a scam, submit a consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission by calling 202-326- 2222 or visiting ftc.gov/complaint.
