: Local Recycling and Waste Company Teaches At-Risk Kids About Recycling

Some kids loved it so much, they asked for materials to continue recycling at home.

It’s never too early to learn how to take care of the planet and a group of local children now have the know-how thanks to American Disposal Services.

The company, which is one of the largest private recycling and waste collectors in the Washington D.C. area, recently held a month-long recycling education program for at-risk children in the area.

American Disposal Services was inspired by an after-school program run at Brent Place apartments for kids in grades 1 through 12. Representatives from the company visited Brent Place on Oct. 2 to teach the kids about recycling.

The kids in the program decorated recyclable paper bags from Trader Joe’s grocery store to collect recyclables at home.

“We (American Disposal Services) seize every opportunity to provide hands-on education related to waste and recycling practices. Our aim is to get younger generations excited to change the way waste is currently disposed of at home,” Alyssa Peltier, American Disposal Services’ Communications Director said in a press release.

The kids who participated in the program were excited to learn about recycling and some even requested large recycling boxes to keep at home. The program ended with a pizza party where American Disposal Services representatives handed out recycling-themed coloring books.
