A 33-year-old man stabbed himself and then made up a story to police about being assaulted by two bearded men in Haymarket: Police

HAYMARKET, VA—A 33-year-old man who stabbed himself and then made up a story to police about being assaulted by two bearded men early Wednesday in the 6600 block of Hunting Path Road has been taken to an area hospital for mental health treatment, according to Prince William County Police. No charges will be placed in the case.

Police had responded to the aforementioned shortly after 12:30 a.m. to investigate a stabbing. The man told police he was standing outside his residence when two unknown men approached him from behind. He said one of the men pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him in the lower body.

He said no words were exchanged and that the men fled after the stabbing. He gave descriptions of both men, including that they both had full beards. After an investigation, detectives from the Violent Crimes Bureau deemed the report a fabrication, and that the minor wound was self-inflicted.
