EMT, AP African American History Among New Courses For PWCS In 2024-25
Some Prince William County students can opt to take EMT, African American history, data science, or medical terminology classes next year.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Prince William County high school students will have several new courses available to them for the 2024-25 school year. On Wednesday, the Prince William County School Board unanimously approved 11 new courses for the high school catalog.
The new courses include two dance courses, AP African American Studies, AP Precalculus, Data Science, Medical Terminology, dual enrollment calculus and environmental science, medical terminology, and weight training courses.
Some of the proposed courses were requested by countywide departments, while individual schools sought some courses. Woodbridge High School asked the school board to consider Dance III and IV an Patriot High School asked for the dual enrollment Calculus course.

The Career and Technical Education department was the only group that will have multiple new courses included in the upcoming catalog. The department requested the Emergency Medical Technician and Medical Terminology courses.

patient care," the school system's description said. "High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students' career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations."
The EMT course description included the same focus on work-based learning. At the end of the EMT course, students can earn a certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
It is not clear which high schools will feature the new offerings.
