Police Release Details of Armed Robbery, Manhunt in Manassas Area

Three schools were in precautionary secure-the-building status during search Wednesday.

Police officers are searching for the suspect in a Wednesday morning armed robbery in the Manassas area, according to Prince William County Police.

Officers responded at 9:15 a.m. to the Western Union at 10526 Lomond Drive, Manassas, regarding a robbery.

An employee reported to police that an unknown man followed him into the business shortly after opening. The employee confronted the man and a struggle ensued, according to police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok.

“At one point, the man pulled out a handgun and struck the employee in the head with the gun,” Perok said. “A witness observed the encounter and the suspect took a set of keys before fleeing the area on foot.”

No money was taken and only minor injuries were reported.

A search for the suspect in the area led Prince William County Schools to put Sinclair and West Gate elementary schools and Stonewall Middle School on precautionary secure the building status, meaning the schools were secured from outside entry.

Police were unable to locate the suspect. He is described as a Hispanic male, unknown age with a medium complexion and thin build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater, black hat, black pants, with a black and white bandana covering his face.
