Prince William Invited to Prince William County

Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton will be visiting the U.S. next month, Dec. 7 and 8.

Their short visit includes stops in New York City and Washington, D.C. But Prince William County officials wonder if the Duke and Duchess might make another stop, to the county with the same name. County officials have invited Prince William to visit Prince William County while he’s here, according to InsideNOVA.

It’s just a quick ride over from Washington, D.C. and Ann Marie Maher, president and CEO of Discover Prince William and Manassas, feels there is some synergy between Prince William and the county, reports InsideNOVA. Her staff plans to send an official invitation, soon.

Though Prince William County is not named directly after Prince William, the name does come from one of his distant relatives. Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, the second son of King George the Second, was nine-years-old when Prince William County was formed in 1730. The General Assembly chose the name to honor King George’s son, who many historians say was liked better than his older brother.
