'Smart Home' With Amazon's Alexa Coming to Bristow

In something of a grand opening, the technology based home will have tours Jan. 28-29 by Brookfield Residential in the Avendale Community.

BRISTOW, VA — A so-called smart home being more or less powered by voice commands to Amazon's Alexa, basically a computerized servant, will be unveiled 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Jan. 28 and 29 at Brookfield Residential's property at 10396 Twin Leaf Drive in the Avendale community.

In case you're late to the party, "Alexa" is a cylinder that responds to things such as "Alexa, what's the temperature?"

For Brookfield's purposes, here's what else Alexa has up her sleeve, all triggered by the spoken word and your voice:

  • Lock the door
  • Turn on lights
  • Raise the shades
  • Water the lawn
  • Pre-heat the oven
  • Change the thermostat
  • Play your favorite music
  • And many more features

"This is how we’re all going to live," division president Robert Hubbell said in a release. "There’s no reason to wait. We couldn’t be more thrilled to offer voice-enabled automation to our home-buyers at many of our new communities."
