Sterling Women Manassas Aims to Empower

Empowerment. It’s more than just a buzzword — at least to us it is. And it’s more than the definition: “to enable or permit.” Empowerment is about the self, about becoming who we think we were meant to become and about giving voice to our greatness.

Wow. Does that sound a whole lot bigger than what you were expecting? Don’t get scared now. You’ve got it in you. And the world is aligned in your favor.

The United Nations says in its “Women’s Empowerment Principles,”

Empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential to build stronger economies, achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities…

The Principles advocate:

• establishing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality;
• treating all women and men fairly at work, respecting and supporting human rights and nondiscrimination;
• promoting education, training and professional development for women;
• implementing enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women;
• promoting equality through community initiatives and advocacy.

Take a look at those principles and ask yourself how they relate to you. Would you like to take a leadership role in your company, or would you like to extend your reach? The professionals who make up Sterling Women Manassas gather each month at a luncheon to network, exchange ideas, offer encouragement and connect. Sponsors have the opportunity to showcase their businesses. A dynamic, successful guest speaker shares experience, knowledge and insight. Between monthly gatherings, members often choose to meet one-on-one or in small groups to further strengthen relationships fostered through the luncheons.

Sterling Women Manassas believes women and men are entitled to empowerment, not to overpower one another, but to encourage one another as we pursue our goals and dreams. Our members are entrepreneurs, executives, authors, lawyers, financial experts — women and men in various industries, women and men who have overcome obstacles to get where they are, women and men who are driven to move towards their vision.
