Teenager Flown To Hospital After Manassas Area Shooting: Police

A teenager who was shot Wednesday night was found in an intersection in the Manassas area and then flown to an area hospital, police said.

MANASSAS, VA โ€” A teenager who was shot Wednesday night was found in an intersection in the Manassas area and then flown to an area hospital, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The 16-year-old male is expected to survive his gunshot wounds, the police said.

At around 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, police officers went to the Westgate Apartments in the 8000 block of Ashland Ave. to investigate a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, the officers found the teenager lying in the intersection of Portsmouth Rd. and Portwood Turn, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers used trauma kits to provide first aid until rescue personnel arrived on the scene.

The Prince William County police said a possible altercation that occurred in the area preceded the teenager getting shot.

Police officers and a police K-9 searched the area for any other people involved. During a canvass of the area, officers located shell casings and a parked vehicle on Portsmouth Road with damage consistent with being struck by projectiles, the police said.

No additional injuries were reported. Detectives with the police department's Violent Crimes Bureau are investigating this incident to determine what led up to the shooting. This incident does not appear to be random, the police said.
