Update: Student Accused Of Threatening Shooting At Manassas Park Schools On Friday
A student at Manassas Park High School was accused of threatening a shooting at the school on Friday. Charges are pending, police said.

MANASSAS PARK, VA — Schools in the City of Manassas Park will pivot to remote asynchronous learning on Friday, the school system announced. A social media post threatened a shooting at a Manassas Park school on Friday, authorities said.
On Friday morning, police said they identified the creator of the social media post as a student at Manassas Park High School. In an update, the City of Manassas Park Police Department said they are consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office regarding potential criminal charges.

All school buildings in the City of Manassas Park will be closed on Friday. The City of Manassas Park Police Department said they are still investigating the threat.
Originally, the police department said there would be an increased police presence at Manassas Park High School and Manassas Park Middle School. However, around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, the school system decided to pivot to asynchronous remote learning for all students on Friday.

In an announcement on Facebook, the school system said the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution."
The school system did not specify which school was threatened, or where the threat was posted.
"We thank the police department for their partnership and diligence in keeping all of our school community safe and secure," the school system wrote on Facebook. "Thank you to everyone who worked to bring this concern to our attention."
Teachers will reach out to students and families to tell them how to access course work through Canvas.
Thursday's threat to Manassas Park schools is the latest in a rash of threats at schools in the northern Virginia area. On Wednesday, authorities in Stafford County responded to a number of threats directed towards Stafford Senior High School. The school was placed on lockdown on Wednesday afternoon after someone reported that a student possessed a gun. The threat was unfounded, police said.

Earlier this week, an 18-year-old man from Fairfax County was arrested and charged with threatening Farmwell Station Middle School in Ashburn. Herndon Middle School in Fairfax was also the subject of an online threat earlier this week.
