At around midnight, Corea-Berrios allegedly assaulted an occupant of an apartment at that location before grabbing a kitchen knife and forcing his way into the bedroom of Yezmin Elizabeth Ruiz-Monchez, 25, police said. He reportedly took her from the apartment and cut the other occupant before fleeing.

Ruiz-Monchez was eventually able to get away from the suspect and contact police. Detectives further learned that during the abduction, she was sexually assaulted by the suspect, police said.

Ruiz-Monchez also told police that she and the suspect were involved in a violent domestic argument on April 9 in which Corea-Berrios tried to strangle her.
