100-MPH Porsche Ride Gets Nationals' Jayson Werth 5 Days in Jail: Report
Werth, 35, was driving from Route 193 onto Beltway when state police pulled him over and charged him with reckless driving, Post says.

Washington Nationals’ baseball player Jayson Werth will serve five days in jail after pleading guilty to a Fairfax County misdemeanor reckless driving charge, according to a report in today’s Washington Post.
Last July, the same month he was named Player of the Month by Major League Baseball, the 35-year-old outfielder took his Porsche on a 100-MPH drive and had entered the Beltway from Route 193 in the Great Falls area when he was pulled over, according to the report.
A Virginia State Police trooper followed the baseball player for half a mile before he was pulled over, the newspaper reported. Werth was reportedly driving 105 in a 55 MPH zone.

The Springfield, Ill., native is popular with fans. After growing his beard out, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts popped up for it and the Nationals even gave away garden gnomes with Werth’s likeness, which you can find on eBay with asking prices up to $249.
“We are aware of the agreement reached today. It is clear that Jayson has taken this matter seriously and with great personal reflection,” a Nationals spokesperson said in a statement. “We do not condone reckless behavior, and we expect all members of the Washington Nationals organization to act in a responsible manner. We support Jayson, who is an integral part of the community and of the Washington Nationals family.”

The Post reported that the model car Werth was driving when he was pulled over was a Porsche GT3 RS. That model costs more than $100,000. It probably didn’t put too big a dent in his bank account. Werth signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Nationals in 2010, according to The Washington Times.
Earlier this month, he underwent surgery to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder and was expected to miss 2-3 months, the Times report noted.
Werth was found guilty in December and was originally sentenced to 180 days in jail with 170 days suspended, NBC-4 reports; he appealed the ruling, dropped it and pled guilty today and agreed Thursday to a plea agreement, according to the TV station.
NBC-4 reports that Werth will begin serving his sentence tomorrow. The Post reports he’ll serve the sentence on weekends so he can continue therapy for his shoulder.
