5 Fun Things To Do This Month In McLean
From a local block party to hands-on demonstrations at a colonial farm, there's a variety of events going on in McLean this month.

MCLEAN, VA—Summer's going by fast, and there's just a month left to enjoy the season. There are plenty of events going on around McLean to soak up the remainder of the summer.
There's a mix of free and paid events. Whether you're looking for a happy hour or fun for the whole family, there's a variety of events going on.

1. Kids Concert in the Park, Aug. 6, 5 p.m.

After a month full of concerts in the park during July, it's the kids turn for performances. Big Bang Boom offers an energetic performance to getting kids up and moving. From calling the kids on stage for the "Spongebob Chorus" to the "Parents vs. Kids Hokey-Pokey Challenge," Big Bang Boom has made certain that there is no sitting down at their fun and energetic show. 2. Old Firehouse Teen Center's Annual Block Party, Aug. 19, 4-8 p.m.

The teen center is celebrating 27 years at its annual block party. Come out for live music, air-brushed tattoos, street performances, an Old Firehouse living history exhibit, concessions, free popcorn cotton candy and snow cones, and other concessions.
In conjunction with the event, two local teens, Jack Lichtenstein and Morgan Poirier, will hold their fourth annual Bands for Bikes concert to benefit Wheels to Africa. Local student musicians and bands will perform throughout the evening. The charity collects used bikes for needy children. Donations can be dropped off at the Old Firehouse Teen Center from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
3. Tobacco Harvest at Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Aug. 19, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101
Come out to see what it was like harvesting tobacco during colonial times at Claude Moore Colonial Farm. You will learn to clean the tobacco leaves, gather the cut plants and hang them on the tobacco sticks inside the tobacco barn to cure. The event is weather permitting. This special event comes with regular admission.
4. Mean Girls Read-Along, Aug. 30, 7 p.m.
Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, VA
McLean will celebrate the back-to-school season with a screening of the ultra-quotable movie. The event is free, but remember: on Wednesdays we wear pink. Admission and popcorn are free. Butter is a carb. Prop bags are $5 each. Supplies are limited. Purchase in advance here.
5. Concerts at Wolf Trap, throughout August

There's a fantastic lineup of performers for all musical tastes at Wolf Trap. Here are some of the big names coming to town:
