Police Charge Falls Church Man with Shoplifting, Assault on Police

Incident took place Sunday morning, just after midnight at the shopping center.

The holidays got a little ugly over the weekend during the arrest of an alleged shoplifter at Tysons Corner Center, according to Fairfax County Police.

A Falls Church man, who was being arrested for allegedly shoplifting at the mall, was also charged with Assault on Police, at the mall, in the 8000 block of Tysons Corner Center, Sunday at 12:02 a.m., police say.

In the process of being arrested for shoplifting, “the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer,” FCPD said in its daily report Monday.

In addition to being charged with assault on a police officer, Jonah Smith, 40, of Falls Church, was also charged with grand larceny and resisting arrest. The officer was treated on the scene for a non-life threatening injury.
