MCLEAN, VA -- A suspect was arrested Tuesday, May 30 within minutes of robbing a McLean bank, but he had to be chased down again after escaping police custody.

Around 4:47 p.m., the suspect walked into PNC Bank at 6805 Old Dominion Drive in McLean, displayed a handgun and demanded money. He left the bank with cash in a gray 2007 Toyota Tundra.

Officers spotted the suspect at the intersection of Anderson Drive and Dolley Madison Boulevard and found a gun and the cash in the truck. Police took Hao The Dinh, 25, of Manassas into custody.

But the suspect escaped upon arrival at the police station. Dinh slipped out of the handcuffs, which police say is rare but not impossible. Afterward he unlatched the door through a partially-opened window and ran away. He attempted to carjack a dump truck by implying a weapon. Police caught up to the suspect and took him into custody again. The dump truck driver was not injured.
