Assaults, Thefts Decline in McLean: Police Data
Overall Fairfax County had a 2 percent uptick in crime from 2015 to 2016.

MCLEAN, VA — Fairfax County has released crime statistics for 2016 for the McLean District and the rest of the county, and overall the county saw a 2 percent increase in crime in 2016 compared to the year before. McLean saw a significant decline in thefts but an increase in crimes against society.
The crime statistics page, which was released by the county on Wednesday, allows you to view overall crime stats and also narrow it down to police districts.
The McLean District reported 879 assaults in 2016, compared to 822 in 2015, but sex offenses declined from 33 to 23.

Crimes against property decreased for McLean from 4,754 to 4,429 in the district, but crimes against society jumped from 679 to 779 from 2015 to 2016. The main driver for the crimes against property was a decrease in larceny/theft violations from 2,761 to 2,503.

“The mission of the Fairfax County Police Department is to prevent and fight crime through community engagement and information sharing, and it is this partnership that keeps Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States," Fairfax County Police Chief Col. Edwin Roessler said in a statement.
