Youth volunteers make a difference

Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards serve as a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The Awards honors individuals, groups, and organizations, which have given outstanding volunteer service.

Established in 1993, the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards serve as a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The Awards honors individuals, groups, and organizations, which have given outstanding volunteer service through a broad range of activities and programs.

One of the awards given is the Youth Volunteer Award. Last year’s recipient was Fateh Nasir. Fateh’s kindness has helped to shape the lives of those at the Lewsinsville Adult Day Center, as he has a wonderful gift of being able to read others and know exactly how to bring a smile to their faces. The LADC therapeutic recreation program is designed to encourage and facilitate as much of a full and well-rounded life as possible for adults with dementia. Fateh is able to contribute to this mission through his generous volunteer commitment to the organization. Whether assisting with leading recreational activities, helping serve lunch, playing cards, or simply talking and listening to the participants, he has brought joy into their lives for which they will be forever grateful.

“Fateh’s love for life and passion to help others is constantly demonstrated in the lives that he continues to touch here at LADC,” says Mariellen Combs, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with the Center.  “We feel that wherever his path will lead him, Fateh will have a very bright, rewarding, and happy future!” Congratulations Fateh and thank you for your service to your community!
