Broadway Girls + Luau Party + Early Fireworks: Coming To MCC In June

McLean Community Center is hosting a variety of events and performances in June, including an early 4th of July fireworks show.

MCLEAN, VA — McLean Community Center is hosting a variety of events, activities and performance for June, including a Luau Party for fifth and sixth graders, summer concerts on Sundays, and the Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, which will be held on June 29 at Langley High School.

Here is the schedule of events that MCC have planned for the first month of summer:

MCC Governing Board: June Monthly Meeting - Wednesday, June 5, 6:30 p.m. All Governing Board meetings are open to the public. The final meeting of the 2023-2024 Governing Board will be followed by the first meeting of the 2024-2025 Governing Board. Tax district residents (Small District 1A-Dranesville) who wish to speak during the “Public Comment” portion of the meeting are welcome to do so by attending the meeting or may call the center at 703-790-0123, TTY: 711 to be placed on the agenda.

Foreign Language Film “Graduation” Presented by The Alden - Thursday, June 6, 1 p.m. and Wednesday, June 12, 6:30 p.m. Free admission. A father compromises his integrity to assure his daughter's college admission. Old Firehouse 5th & 6th Grader Party: Luau Party - Friday, June 7, 7-9:30 p.m., at 1440 Chain Bridge Road. $35/$25 MCC district residents/$20 OFC Members, who must call to make payment. Preregistration is recommended. Old Firehouse 5th & 6th grader parties are themed and decorated accordingly. Free catered food and beverages will be distributed to participants. Parties feature a DJ, open dance floor and a variety of activities.

“Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now”—The Three Leading Ladies of “Hairspray” with Marissa Jaret Winokur, Laura Bell Bundy and Kerry Butler Presented by The Alden. Saturday, June 8, 7 p.m. $75/$60 senior/$50 MCC district residents; VIP $100/$85 senior/$75 MCC district residents. VIP tickets include preferred seating and meet and greet after the show. Celebrate over 20 years of the Broadway musical “Hairspray” with the original Tracy, Penny and Amber in “Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now”! Tony Award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur (“Dancing with the Stars”) and Tony nominees Kerry Butler (“Xanadu”) and Laura Bell Bundy (“Legally Blonde”) reunite onstage for the first time since performing together in “Hairspray.”

Performing Arts Movie: Pride Month Selection Matthew Bourne’s “Swan Lake” Presented by The Alden - Thursday, June 13, 1 p.m. Free admission. Thrilling, audacious, witty and emotive, this “Swan Lake” is perhaps best known for replacing the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered conventions and took the entire dance world by storm. Winner of both Olivier an Tony Awards. Not rated.

Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park: DMV Fam-Jam Allstars Presented by The Alden - Sunday, June 16, 4 p.m. On the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Rd.

Free. Where the beat is in the pocket and the rhythm is in your soul! Featuring three DMV-based children’s musicians: Uncle Devin, Ms. Niki and Groovy Nate!

Closing Notice: Juneteenth Holiday - Wednesday, June 19 The McLean Community Center and the Old Firehouse Center will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday. The centers will reopen on Thursday, June 20, at regular business hours.

Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park Presented by The Alden: Elena Moon Park and Friends - Sunday, June 23, 4 p.m. On the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Rd. Free. Elena Moon Park and Friends performs music for all-ages audiences, including folk and children’s music from around the globe, with an emphasis on East Asia and original songs. The band’s music celebrates togetherness and learning about the world around us.

McLean Independence Day Fireworks Celebration Produced by the McLean Community Center - Saturday, June 29, 6:30-10 p.m.; Rain Date: Sunday, June 30, at Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike. Free admission. Come celebrate Independence Day with MCC. The whole family will enjoy music, food trucks, giveaways and at dusk, a huge fireworks display. There is a limited amount of free onsite parking and additional free satellite parking with shuttle bus service (accessibility equipped). Backtrack Vocals is an internationally touring a cappella group whose exciting arrangements transform familiar tunes and showcase the top-notch vocal and beatboxing abilities of its members. They infuse heart and humor into every performance and their versatile repertoire that covers Top 40, Motown, classical music, show tunes, original music and more!
