Canadian Who Traveled To VA For Sex With Girl Sentenced

A 54-year-old Canadian man who traveled to Virginia to have sex with a 15-year-old girl was sentenced in federal court, authorities say.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A Canadian man who admitted to traveling from Toronto to Virginia last June to engage in sex with a minor girl was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday to 10 years in prison, according to authorities.

On May 9, 2025, Tommy Varesh, a 54-year-old man from Toronto, used an online platform to contact a person whom he believed was a 15-year-old girl living in the D.C. area, according to court documents. The girl, in fact, was an undercover detective with the Fairfax County Police Department.

Identifying himself as a resident of New York, Varesh told the undercover officer that he would be willing to travel to meet them for sex, according to court documents. He asked if the detective was a virgin and said he would obtain emergency contraception.

Varesh warned the undercover officer that their conversation needed to remain private and that her parents and other adults shouldn't learn about it, court records say. He sent graphic images of himself and requested sexual images in return.

On June 16, 2025, Varesh traveled to Virginia with the intention of having sex with an underage girl, court records say. When he was arrested, he was carrying black lingerie and emergency contraception.
