Christmas 2017: What's Open, Closed In McLean

MCLEAN, VA—As families get a break from work and school for the Christmas holiday, many services will be closed around the holiday. While everything is typically closed on Christmas Day, many will be closed the Friday prior as well.

Fairfax County offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 22 and Monday, Dec. 25. Other services such as public transportation and recreation centers will run on different schedules.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of around Christmas.

Fairfax County Offices: Closed Friday and Monday.

Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed through Jan. 1.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County will be closed 25 and 26, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The courts will close at noon Friday, Dec. 22.

Animal Shelter: Closed Monday.

Community Centers: McLean Community Center is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Dec. 22-25.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on Friday and Monday.

Libraries: Closed Friday and Monday.

Metrorail: On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Metrorail will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule on both days, with off-peak fares in effect and free parking at Metro-operated lots and garages.

Metrobus: Information available at www.wmata.com

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Parks: Closed Christmas Day. See hours for specific parks at fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours.

Fairfax County Recreation Centers: All rec centers except George Washington RECenter are open regular hours on Christmas Eve. All are closed Christmas Day.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will closed at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day.

Trash Pickup: Contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
