Intruder Outside CIA HQ Dies After Shooting Involving FBI Agent

(Updated at 2:54 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4) MCLEAN, VA — The intruder involved in a standoff and shooting outside the CIA headquarters in Langley Monday has died, according to the FBI.

NBC News reported an unauthorized person tried to drive past the entrance gate on Monday before guards stopped him from entering. A CIA spokesperson's statement said the agency's officers responded to a "security situation" outside the main gate and the facility remained secure.

The man was in a standoff with authorities outside the CIA headquarters entrance until around 6 p.m., when the person came out of his vehicle with a weapon, the FBI's Washington Field office said. Officers fired at the man, who was wounded and sent to the hospital.

On Tuesday, the FBI said the man had died at the hospital. The victim has not been publicly identified by authorities.

The FBI is investigating the agent-involved shooting, per agency policy.

"The review will carefully examine the circumstances of the shooting and collect all relevant evidence from the scene," the field office stated. "As the review remains ongoing, we cannot provide any additional details at this time."

Reporters outside the secured CIA entrance reported hearing bangs and witnessed an ambulance leave Monday evening.

According to Fairfax County Police, Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) has reopened both directions between Kirby Road and Georgetown Pike after the police activity. The county's police department was assisting with traffic management.
