Columbus Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In McLean

The McLean Community Center and other services will be closed on Columbus Day.

MCLEAN, VA—On Monday, Oct. 8, Fairfax County will recognize Columbus Day. It is considered a state and federal holiday, meaning government offices, schools and other services will be closed. Other services may be open or run on a different schedule.

Here's a look at what's open and closed around McLean.

Fairfax County Offices: Closed Monday, Oct. 8. There will be no absentee voting at the Office of Elections.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County will be closed on Oct. 8, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Monday, Oct. 8.

Community Centers: Closed Monday, Oct 8.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a holiday weekday schedule on Columbus Day. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on Oct. 8.

Libraries: Closed Monday, Oct. 8.

Metrorail: Metrorail will operate on a Saturday schedule. Hours are 5 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Parking is free at Metro-operated lots and garages.

Metrobus: Metrobus will operate on a Saturday and supplemental schedule. See bus timetables.

McLean Community Center: Closed on Columbus Day.

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Parks: Parks are open on Columbus Day, except for the Green Spring Gardens Historic House. For more information, visit fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours.

Recreation Centers: All recreation centers are open for normal hours.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are open on Oct. 8.

Trash and Recycling: There is no schedule change for Oct. 8 county collection. For private collections, contact your trash collector.
