The McLean Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) extends its appreciation to the McLean Area Community for its multi-decade support of the Annual Used Book Sales. The 45th AAUW Annual Used Book Sale will be held at the McLean Community Center (MCC), 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean, on Friday September 19 from 9 am to 7 pm; Saturday September 20 from 10 am to 6 pm; and Sunday September 21 from noon to 4 pm. On Sunday most of books will be sold for $10.00 per bag.
The 2014 AAUW Used Book Sale is amazingly well stocked with tens of thousands of books plus hundreds of CDs as well as DVDs of television series and movies. Recent editions of histories, including many military histories, biographies, political analyses, as well as gardening, health, general literature and business and economics books, are abundant. All travel books have been published between 2009 and 2014. Of course, not to be missed is a terrific assortment of treasured collectibles and special art books, a huge and very complete collection of mystery stories, lots of children’s books, and general interest adult books.
Funds raised last year from the 44th Annual Used Book Sale contributed both to scholarships for deserving local women and to science, technology, engineering and mathematics awards for local high school girls. McLean Area Branch funds sent to the national AAUW efforts were a significant part of funds donated by the 165,000 local member organizations of AAUW, which awarded almost $4 million dollars in fellowships and grants to 244 women and supported research projects, legal advocacy, and leadership training for women and girls nationwide. The Community support and the many thousands of hours of volunteer labor donated by the Branch members and the facilities donated by the Vienna SunTrust Bank resulted in the McLean Area Branch of AAUW being recognized nationally and statewide for outstanding achievement in fundraising.
