If the last couple of weeks are any indication, summer is arriving early in McLean.<br /><br />After a cool and wet spring, the recent stretch of warm temperatures has many families thinking about pool days, summer activities, and how they want to spend the months ahead. With Fairfax County schools preparing to wrap up for the year, now is the perfect time to make plans for a summer filled with recreation, friendship, and community.<br /><br />The McLean Swim &amp; Tennis Association (MSTA) is currently welcoming new members and, unlike many area clubs, we have both Equity and Seasonal Rental Memberships available with no waiting list.<br /><br />Located in the heart of McLean, MSTA offers a family-friendly environment where members can enjoy swimming, tennis, social events, and a strong sense of community throughout the summer season.<br /><br />For families looking to keep children active during the school break, MSTA is home to the McLean Marlins Swim Team and offers opportunities for swimmers of all experience levels. Whether your child is just learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming or is looking to continue developing their racing skills, there are opportunities to participate and grow in a supportive environment.<br /><br />In addition to swim team activities, MSTA hosts summer swim camps and tennis camps that help children stay active, build confidence, and make new friends during the summer months. These programs are designed to be fun, engaging, and accessible to a wide range of ages and skill levels.<br /><br />While children enjoy camps, swim team, and recreational activities, parents can take advantage of the club's pool, tennis courts, and social atmosphere. MSTA has long been known as a neighborhood gathering place where families can relax, connect with friends, and create lasting summer memories.<br /><br />Summer is almost here. Make MSTA part of it.

<p>A 5K race will be hosted in Potomac by the&nbsp;Montgomery County Road Runners Club on July 4, 2026, at 8 a.m.</p>
<p>"Start your Independence Day celebration by running or walking this popular, long-standing Potomac course in celebration of liberty, courage, and togetherness," reads the announcement.</p>
<p>"Parking is located at the Potomac Presbyterian Church (10301 River Road), which is a short walk to the start/finish. All finishers will receive a commemorative cooling towel."</p>
<p>Bib/chip pickup runs from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., with an opening ceremony scheduled for 7:30 a.m.</p>
<p>The race officially gets underway at 8 a.m., and MCRRC organizers say that any participant arriving more than seven minutes late may not be allowed to start due to compliance with road closures.</p>
<p>Registration for the event comes with a $27 fee.</p>

<p>The Town of Chevy Chase will hold an "Independence Day Picnic and Parade" event on July 4, 2026, from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lawton Center Grounds.</p><p>Starting at 11:45 a.m., residents are welcome to decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons and baby carriages with supplies provided by organizers at the Lawton Center.</p><p>The parade, which the Dixie Land Trio will lead, will kick off at 12 p.m.  The picnic portion of the day's festivities start at 12:15 p.m. and will include goods from Rocklands BBQ and Ben and Jerry's.&nbsp;</p><p>"Vegetarian &amp; vegan options are available. Current preschool families and neighbors&nbsp;will gather on the playground for featured art and STEM activities!</p><p>Families interested in registering for the upcoming 2026-27 school year are invited to learn more and meet the Director. <strong>Classes for 2's, 3's, and 4's are offered for mornings and all day.</strong> <strong>Good Beginnings, a class for children and their caretaker,&nbsp;is offered for children 1.5 years - 2.5 years.</strong>&nbsp;We look forward to meeting you!</p>
<p>This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other families and introduce your child to the grounds - natural play area, play structures, gardens, and outdoor classroom - which are special places for them.
