Fairfax County Public Schools Decide On Classes For Jan. 27

The winter storm forced Fairfax County Public Schools to make a schedule decision for Tuesday classes.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — With most of the region still digging out from the weekend's winter storm, all Fairfax County Public Schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

  • Extracurricular activities
  • Interscholastic contests
  • Team practices
  • Field trips
  • Middle school after-school programs
  • Professional learning and training courses
  • Adult High School and GED
  • Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes
  • Recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS
  • Homebound instruction
  • School Age Child Care and Beyond the Bell centers are also closed.

In accordance with Regulation 4810, employees designated as essential personnel should follow supervisor direction. Emergency administrative leave is authorized for all other personnel.

Fairfax County Closures And Cancellations

  • Fairfax County Government offices and all courts (Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court) are closed Tuesday, Jan. 27.
  • Emergency administrative leave is granted for county employees not designated as emergency personnel.
  • Emergency personnel should report as schedule.
  • Fairfax County Health Department public health centers and administrative offices are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to inclement weather.
  • Fairfax Connector service is suspended.
  • Trash and recycling pickup for county customers are suspended and will resume on a sliding schedule as conditions permit.
  • Fairfax County Board committee meetings for Tuesday, Jan. 27 have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10.
