As summer unofficially ends with Labor Day, fall festivals will open for the season. If pumpkin patches, apple picking, corn mazes and other seasonal activities sound appealing to you, there are plentiful options to check out around Northern Virginia. Between one-day events and farm attractions, the area has quite the variety.

  • Apple Gala & Fresh Cider Fest at Great Country Farms: weekends in September - Enjoy apple picking, live music, cider pressing demonstrations and other farm activities.
  • Falls Church Festival: Sept. 14 - This one-day event features the Taste of Falls Church, children's amusements, a beer garden and more.
  • Cox Farms Fall Festival: Sept. 14-15 and Sept. 21-Nov. 5 - Families can enjoy activities like hayrides, slides, Foamhenge, Cornundrum and more at the farm. The Fields of Fear attraction will be open on Friday and Saturday nights from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2.

  • Temple Hall Farm Festival & Corn Maize: Sept. 28 to Nov. 5 - Known for its 20-acre corn maze, this fall festival also offers pumpkin blasters, corn cannons, jumping pillow, seasonal treats and more.
  • Corn Maze in the Plains: Sept. 28 to Nov. 3 - Along with a corn maze, guests can browse the pumpkin patch, take a hayride, enjoy fall treats and more.
  • Merrifield Fall Festival: Sept. 28 - Beer and wine gardens, vendors, children's activities and live music are highlights of this festival.
  • Fall Pumpkin Harvest Festival at Great Country Farms: Sept. 30 to Oct. 31: The follow-up to the Apple Gala festival features pumpkin and apple picking and other farm activities.

  • Fall Wine Festival & Sunset Tour at Mount Vernon: Oct. 11 to 13 - Bring a blanket and relax on the lawn of the Mount Vernon estate while trying Virginia wines and learning about George Washington's wine endeavors.
  • Portside in Old Town Fall Festival: Oct. 12 - Enjoy a day of live music, maritime history, nautical demonstrations and children's activities on the Old Town Alexandria waterfront.
  • City of Fairfax Fall Festival: Oct. 12 - The 43rd annual festival brings over 400 arts, crafts, information, food and gourmet food vendors, children’s activities and three stages of music and entertainment.
