Capital Beltway Crash Near Chain Bridge Road Kills 2, Injures 1

Two people died and another was injured Tuesday night on the Capital Beltway, according to Virginia State Police.

MCLEAN, VA — Two people died and another was injured in a crash on the Capital Beltway Tuesday night, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 495 north of the Chain Bridge Road exit. According to state police, A Mazda driving south in the northbound lanes of I-495 struck a Buick Encore head on. The crash impact caused the Buick to catch fire.

Both drivers died at the scene, according to state police. The Buick driver, Patrick J.C. Mullins, 32, of Catlett, Virginia, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The Mazda driver, Kaan T. Karabekir, 28, of Bethesda, Maryland, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

A passenger in the Buick was taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries and burns from the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
