Fire Completely Destroys Great Falls Home

A weekend fire that completely destroyed a $1.13 million Great Falls home remains under investigation.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

Emergency responders arrived at the home, at 1036 Leigh Mill Road, to find fire blazing from all three floors of the large home, according to a news release.

A second alarm was sounded and a tanker dispatched because the home is not located near a fire hydrant. Firefighters also dammed a nearby creek to use as their primary water supply, the news release states.

The fire took about 90 minutes to contain. No one was injured. A man staying in a nearby guest house escaped unharmed, the release states.

The 12,000-square-foot home was under renovation and unoccupied when the fire started. Firefighters were able to protect and save the guest home and a pool house, the release states.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department posted a picture of the home (see above) to its Facebook page on Tuesday.

A call seeking more information was not immediately returned Wednesday.
