Fortune 500: These Virginia Companies Make 2020 List

VIRGINIA — Fortune magazine has released its annual list of the 500 top companies in America, which represent two-thirds of the country's gross domestic product, the magazine says. Of those 500 companies, 23 are based in Virginia. There were no companies headquartered in the District of Columbia on the list.

Fortune ranks companies by total annual revenue and, for the eighth consecutive year, Walmart topped the 2020 list, followed by Amazon and Exxon Mobil. Apple and CVS Health ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, rounding out the top five spots on the list.

The 500 companies employ 29.2 million people worldwide.
