Giant Food Hosts Free Classes For December

These classes will be taught by different Giant in-store nutritionists.

From Giant Food: Giant Food of Landover, Md. continues to offer unique customer services, a trend that has been in place for the past 80 years since the first Giant opened its doors in 1936. Giving back to the communities served by its 169 stores is a cornerstone of Giant’s operation, which includes many health and wellness initiatives. With the help of Giant’s team of in-store nutritionists, Giant is connecting to the individual customer and providing the information and guidance they need to lead healthy lives.

In a world full of food options and different diet trends, a nutritionist has the training and expertise needed to sort through individual information to provide their clients with a plan that suits their needs. A nutritionist’s primary job is to help advise customers when it comes to their health and what they consume. Through setting up consultations and creating specialized diets, nutritionists can help with various concerns, like weight loss, diabetes and other health issues where diet is particularly important. Amanda Barnes, RD, LDN, Giant’s in-store nutritionist at the Chain Bridge Corner Giant in McLean, Virginia, provides a variety of opportunities for customers to learn about healthy eating and will work with customers to answer specific dietary questions.

Barnes earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Seattle Pacific University and furthered her studies by completing an internship at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. “I have always loved cooking and food, and understanding how healthy food can nourish people from the inside out,” said Barnes.
