Session 85 is comprised of 48 newly sworn Fairfax County Police Officers and one Animal Protection Police Officer (APPO). This latest graduating class is a unique and diverse class where eight different languages are spoken by 18 different officers. These languages consist of Spanish, Korean, German, Sinhala, Arabic, Tagalog, and Bisaya.

Ten of the officers were born outside of the United States. Thirty-six of our recruits are college graduates and three obtained their master’s degrees prior to starting their career with FCPD.

Session 85 is also in line with the FCPD 30X30 pledge aiming to increase the representation of women in police recruit classes to 30% by the year 2030. Of the 48 new officers in this class, 14 are women (29%).

Officers began training at FCCJA on September 11, 2023, and graduated today after completing a 25-week training academy. The academy consisted of basic instruction in the procedures, techniques, and principles of law enforcement, incident report writing, criminal law, traffic enforcement, and first aid. Officers also received implicit and generational bias training; a training designed to help officers build trust and positive relationships within their communities.

After graduation, officers will be assigned to one of the Fairfax County Police Department’s eight district stations and enter a 12-week field training period. During field training, officers will be paired with a primary and secondary Field Training Instructor (FTI) where they will be evaluated on the skills they learned in the academy. In addition to our FCPD graduates, there were three Town of Herndon Police Officers, one Town of Vienna Police Officer and 9 Sheriff’s Deputies.
