"Jesus Christ Superstar" Opens July 10 at Alden Theatre

McLean Community Players' production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" opens July 10.

The McLean Community Players’ production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the inspiring rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, opens tomorrow at the Alden Theatre. With some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most memorable music, including “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” it is based on the accounts in the Gospels of the final days of Jesus of Nazareth, from his arrival in Jerusalem until his crucifixion. Although the setting and style of the show are contemporary, it is faithful to the biblical accounts of the events. For an interview with cast members and Kevin McCormack, who co-directs along with Pam McCormack, see the preview article by David Siegel in the Connection.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., July 10-26, 2015. Suitable for ages 10 and older. Tickets are $25 general admission and $23 seniors, students, and district residents. Group rates are available. The Alden Box Office is open Wed. and Thurs., 5-9 p.m., and Fri. and Sat., 12 noon-9 p.m., and at noon before matinee performances, or order by phone from OvationTix at 1-866-811-4111. Tickets and more information are available at www.McLeanPlayers.org

Through a cooperative agreement with the Metropolitan Washington Ear, audio description services for individuals with vision challenges will be offered at the July 25 performance.
