Man Dies In McLean New Year's Crash
Police believe the driver was speeding when his car left the George Washington Memorial Parkway and struck a tree.

MCLEAN, VA—A driver died early New Year's Day after crashing his car in McLean, U.S. Park Police say.
Around 6:13 a.m., police responded to the one-vehicle crash on George Washington Memorial Parkway between the Capital Beltway and CIA exit, The Washington Post reports. Police say the driver's car left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The driver had to be rescued from the car and transported to the hospital, where he died. Police have not yet released the identity of the Silver Spring, Md. man. No one else was injured in the crash.

Early investigations show high speed likely contributed to the crash, but police have not confirmed alcohol was involved.
WTOP's traffic center reports the roadway closed for several hours after the crash, reopening around 9:50 a.m.
