McLean BizBuzz: Northrop Grumman Wins Award, Medical Group Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems headquarters, located in McLean, was presented last week with the Small Business Partner of the Year Award from the Small and Emerging Contractors Advisory Forum.  The company was given the award based on its “ongoing commitment and support of small businesses,” according to a press release issued by Northrop Grumman. 

The award is presented each year to a Washington-area company that has “established and actively supported mentorships, teaming, partnerships and other beneficial programs for small and emerging contractors,” according to the press release.

Small businesses make up nearly half of Northrop Grumman’s information systems subcontractors.  And according to its press release, many veteran-owned, women-owned, disabled veteran-owned businesses are considered for and offered subcontracting opportunities.

Principal Medical Group

Tonight the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce will join the Principal Medical Group to celebrate the one-year anniversary of McLean’s newest concierge medical practice. PMG opened its doors in 2011, and “has quickly grown to be one of McLean’s foremost concierge medicine practices,” according to the Principal Medical Group's press release.

“We’re thrilled to honor Principal Medical Group for their contributions to the health of our community,” said Marcia Twomey, President of the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, in the PMG press release.  “We commend Dr. Jones and his staff for their focus on providing high-quality primary care services to our residents,” Twomey added.  The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce will join the medical group for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception Thursday night.

Promotions: The Washington Group of Northwestern Mutual, located in McLean, recently appointed Matthew McDowell Chief Financial Officer.  McDowell has been with since 2005, working in Northwestern Mutual’s various offices across the country, including the company’s corporate headquarters in Milwaukee.  In his years with the company he “has consulted with Managing Partners all over the country regarding early productivity, operations and financial management,” according to the website.
