McLean Community Center May 2026 Schedule: McLean Day, Concerts, And Art Events

MCLEAN, VA — The McLean Community Center has released its schedule of activities for May, featuring art competitions, theatrical performances, and the annual McLean Day festival at various local venues.

The month begins Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Old Firehouse Center with "IGNITE at OFC: Art & Paint Theme." According to organizers, the event includes paint pouring led by teacher Gillian Bank and crafts guided by the OFC’s Art Club Facilitator.

Also on May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., the MCC will host a reception for the "Freedom Through My Eyes Art & Writing Competition." The event will recognize award recipients and feature an America 250 commemorative art installation and a printed anthology of submissions.

Concurrent with the competition reception, the McLean Project for the Arts will hold its 2026 Spring Solos opening reception in the Emerson and Atrium Galleries. The exhibition features works by artists Zsudayka Nzinga, Darlene R. Taylor, and Sabine Carlson.

The Alden Theatre will host "The Doo Wop Project" on the evening of May 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The performance features Broadway vocalists performing classic five-part harmonies from groups such as the Crests and The Temptations alongside contemporary songs.

Beginning Wednesday, May 6, The Old Firehouse Center will host "Open Game Nights" every Wednesday in May from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The drop-in sessions offer ping pong and Mah Jongg for community members.

On Thursday, May 7, at 1 p.m. and Wednesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m., The Alden Theatre will screen the 1983 film "El Norte." The R-rated film follows teenage siblings fleeing a massacre in Guatemala to seek a new life in the United States.

Comedian and "Seinfeld" writer Pat Hazell will perform his show "Permanent Record" at The Alden Theatre on Saturday, May 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Organizers stated Hazell hired an opposition research company to investigate his past for the performance.

The Alden’s movie series continues Thursday, May 14, at 1 p.m. with the 2005 documentary "Ballet Russes." The film examines the history of the Ballet Russes de Monte Carlo through archival footage and interviews with surviving dancers.

The annual McLean Day festival returns to Lewinsville Park on Friday, May 15, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. for carnival rides and MCC Governing Board voting. The full festival follows on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring live music, food trucks, and more than 100 exhibitors.

The month concludes Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. with a performance by pianist Jenny Lin at The Alden Theatre. Titled "Melody’s Mostly Musical Day," the storytelling concert introduces children to classical pieces by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and other composers.
