MCLEAN, VA — After a meeting on the McLean Central Park development concept was postponed, the rescheduled date is Wednesday.

Residents can learn about the revised development concept for the 28-acre park during the March 2 virtual meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will be available at www.publicinput.com/McLeanCentralPark or by phone at 855-925-2801 with access code 2881.

In 2013, the Fairfax County Park Authority approved a master plan revision, a long-term planning document, for McLean Central Park. When funding became available with a park bond approved in November 2020, the park authority presented a development concept in 2021 for proposed new facilities.

That initial development concept called for an amphitheater, drop-off, fitness area, picnic area, bocce court, game tables, seating areas, disc golf and trail improvements. The amphitheater proposal in particular drew opposition from the McLean Citizens Association. The citizens association questioned the need for an amphitheater amid other nearby performance venues, including the newly-opened Capital One Hall. McLean Central Park already has a gazebo that hosts small-scale events on a seasonal basis.

The McLean Community Center, which hosts the Summer Concert Series at the park's gazebo, supported the amphitheater concept. The community center and Dolley Madison Library are located adjacent to the park.

The revised development concept being presented at Wednesday's meeting is based on public feedback, the park authority says. The meeting will include a question and comment session. A recording of the meeting and presentation slides will be available after the meeting on the project website.

Comments on the revised plan will be accepted until April 1 at McLeanCentralPark@PublicInput.com.
