McLean Citizens Association Looking for a Few Good Teens

Know a teenager who’s a real character? OK, let’s rephrase that: Know a teen with character?

The McLean Citizens Association is again sponsoring the Teen Character Award to recognize teens with exceptional ethical and compassionate character. Here’s the scoop from the MCA:

Teens who have, on their own and without compensation or formal recognition, cared for elderly relatives or younger siblings, or who have helped out in the neighborhood or community (defined as the Greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area), deserve to be recognized not only for themselves but as an example to others, the MCA says.

The award is not a competition, but teens may only receive it once, according to the MCA. All teens whose nominations indicate they meet the criteria will receive an award, the MCA notes.

Nominations will be reviewed by the McLean Citizens Association Education and Youth Committee to determine compliance with the criteria. The criteria are listed on the attached description of the award. The award consists of a certificate that will be presented at McLean Day on

Names of award winners will be provided to local newspapers to highlight recognition of the teens’ achievements, according to the MCA. See a nomination application here.
