McLean Man Pleads Guilty To Sending Threatening Texts To Federal Employee

A 33-year-old McLean man admitted in court to sending threatening texts to two people, one of whom was a federal employee, authorities say.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A McLean man pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria Thursday to sending threatening messages via text to a public official, according to authorities.

Scott Allen Bolger, 33, admitted that he used Google Voice to send threatening text to a federal employee on Dec. 23, 2025, court records say.

The victim received this text from a telephone number in the 301 area code: “Step on U Street and get a bullet put between your eyes, loyalist pig skin (expletive),” according to an affidavit filed by a deportation officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Chantilly.

The FBI made an emergency disclosure request with Google for the 301 phone number, according to the affidavit. The officer was then able to link that number to a telephone number with a 703 area code belonging to Bolger.

During an interview with authorities, Bolger admitted he searched for the victim's phone number and called it to confirm that the number was correct, according to the affidavit. When the victim answered, Bolger said he hung up. Eventually, Bolger admitted to sending the threatening text, authorities said. Bolger was arrested and charged with transmitting threats in interstate commerce.

"During his plea, Bolger also admitted to sending threatening and harassing messages to a second victim (Victim-2) who is not a public official," according to court records. "From at least October 2022, Bolger created multiple fictitious accounts on X and Proton Mail to harass Victim-2, and researched Victim-2 on the internet through at least November 2025. Bolger sent Victim-2 private indecent images of Victim-2, and on at least one occasion, made a public facing profile with indecent images of Victim-2."

Bolger is due back in court on May 20 for sentencing," court records say. He faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
