McLean Restaurant Inspections: Drain Flies Spotted

Drain flies in a restaurant kitchen was one of the latest violations around McLean.

MCLEAN, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from McLean inspections in late September. Among the violations was drain flies found near a prep sink at Cafe Oggi. Inspectors reminded the restaurant to properly mop up water to prevent harborage conditions.

violation: no hand washing between handling raw and ready-to-eat foods (corrected)

Cafe Oggi: 6671 Old Dominion Dr, Mclean, VA 22101, last inspection: Sept. 22

violations: raw chicken stored over vegetables, foods cold holding at improper temperatures, questionable expiration date for crab meat, back door open and screen door torn could allow entry of pests (all corrected), drain flies found near prep sink

Corner Bakery Cafe: 2001 International Dr, Mclean, VA 22102, last inspection: Sept. 22

violation: grease accumulating on walls and ceiling

Percolator: 7596 Colshire Dr, MC LEAN, VA 22102, last inspection: Sept. 22

violations: foods cold holding in display cooler (corrected), display cooler not operating properly
