McLean Restaurant Inspections: Mold Inside Ice Bin

MCLEAN, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from McLean and Tysons inspections in November. Among the violations was mold inside an ice bin at Sweet Bites Cafe and Bakery. The violation was corrected during the inspection.

violations: employee did not wash hands before doing activity that could contaminate food, foods cold holding at improper temperatures, two refrigerators not operating properly, sanitizer concentration too low (all corrected)

NADA Cafe: 8400 Westpark Drive, Mclean, VA 22102, last inspection: Nov. 17

violation: cheeses cold holding at improper temperatures (corrected)

Pho Deluxe Tysons: 1577 Spring Hill Road, Vienna, VA 22182, last inspection: Nov. 21

violations: silverware, pan not cleaned properly, employee handling raw beef without gloves (all corrected)

Sbarro: 7939L Tysons Corner Center #G21AL, Mclean, VA 22102, last inspection: Nov. 22

violations: open drinking container stored above prep counter, mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni cold holding at improper temperatures (both corrected), drinks, frozen spinach stored on/near floor, drain flies found
