Music Of Civil Rights Movement Highlighted In McLean's MLK Day

Performers will look at the meanings behind the music of the civil rights movement for this year's MLK Day program.

MCLEAN, VA - From McLean Community Center: The McLean Community Center’s (MCC) 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration features a performance of BFly Entertainment’s “Liner Notes,” a lively chronicle of the music and progression of the civil rights movement. The show is 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, in The Alden Theatre, 1234 Ingleside Ave, McLean, Va. 22101. Tickets are $25 for the general public; $15 for MCC tax district residents.

Featuring the Cornerstone Jazz Quintet, Paige Hernandez, Baye Harrell and Akua Allrich, this multimedia concert experience takes the audience on a journey to discover “the meaning behind the music” of the civil rights movement. The show explores the actual liner notes included in past and present jazz, soul and R& B albums, as well as recent contributions by hip-hop artists. “Liner Notes brings to life the formative experience—dying out in the digital age—of falling in love with music through the engrossing text on the backs of records, in tape sleeves and in CD booklets.” – The Washington Post
